“Legends, a path to more attractive tourist destination” - eMS 467

What’s the goal?

The main objective of the project is to improve the touristic attractiveness of the targeted area (Dolj, Olt, Mehedinti, Montana, Vidin and Vratsa) by identifying, saving, preserving and promoting inestimable pieces of immaterial heritage, local legends, with the goal of improving the sustainable use of natural heritage and resources and cultural heritage.

What’s the budget?

499 165.02 euro, out of which 424 290.26 euro ERDF

Target at the half of the implementation period: 51,376 euro for LB and 96,700 euro for B2.

Lead Beneficiary (LB): Forever for Europe Association (Romania)

Beneficiary 2 (B2): Private Benefit Association “Agency for Development of North-West Bulgaria” (Bulgaria).

How is it going to happen?

  • Collecting the local legends related to natural heritage and resources and cultural heritage from the targeted CBC area, with the potential of becoming sustainable touristic attractions and illustrate them through graphical representation;
  • Improving the level of attractiveness of cross-border tourism through the development of 2 common tourism products, namely Legendary Map (paper version and e-map together with the explanatory catalogue) and Legendary Camp (common event dedicated to pupils and teachers);
  • Increasing the number of tourists in the targeted area by promoting the sustainable use of common heritage in terms of local legends through distribution of the touristic materials developed, elaborating and broadcasting of the video production and organizing the Legendary Camp for 240 pupils and 48 teachers.

What will be the results (what’s the contribution to the Programme)?

Programme outputs:

- 1 common strategy, policy or management plan for valorising (including raising awareness) the cultural and natural heritage through its restoration and promotion for sustainable economic uses;

- 2 integrated tourism products/services created;

- 348 increase in expected number of visits to supported sites of cultural and natural heritage and attraction;

Programme results: 348 tourist overnights in the CBC region.

Project status

The project is at the end of the 9th month of implementation out of 18 months. Up to the present moment, all the project activities are implemented according to the approved schedule and no particular issue is identified in terms of the physical implementation up to the present moment of implementation. Still, some minor delay is identified within the elaboration of the tender documentation for “Production of a common video production promoting the legends”, which, as declared by LB, will be recovered in short terms from the contractor and up to now did not produce a negative impact over the Activities` schedule.

The joint internal project management team on behalf of both Beneficiaries was set up within the first reporting period. Also within the present reporting period (01.09.2018 – 28.02.2019), the project beneficiaries have performed also Project meeting no. 1 in Craiova on 26.11.2018, 7 representatives. Under Activity “Identifying the local legends with the potential of becoming sustainable touristic attractions“, until now were identified 3 Legends from Dolj, 3 Legends from Olt and 3 Legends from Mehedinti and 4 Legends from Montana, 3 Legends from Vratsa and 3 Legends from Vidin.

Under Activity “Organization of the 4-day Legendary Camps in Bulgaria”, there were organized the first and second Legendary Camp in Varshetz, BG- first Legendary camp performed in the period 13.01-17.01.2019) and second Legendary camp, performed in the period 12.05 – 16.05.2019 with the participation of 30 students from RO, 30 students from BG, 6 teachers from BG, 6 teachers from RO, 1 animator from BG, 1 animator from RO and 1 translator and 6 representatives of the PMTs. Also, the project web site is being developed - www.danubelegends.eu. The website is still in the elaboration phase and remains to be delivered in final operational version to the LB.
