Balloon adventure - a new joint tourism product

Who?

Lead beneficiary (LB): Agency for Regional Development and Business Center – Vidin (ARDBC Vidin, Bulgaria)

Beneficiary 2 (B2): Regional Development Agency and Business Center 2000, Bulgaria

Beneficiary 3 (B3): Romanian Association for Electronic Industry and Software Industry, Oltenia Subsidiary, Romania

When?

Start date: 02.02.2016

End date: 01.02.2018

Where?

Veliko Tarnovo, Pleven, Vidin, Vratsa, Ruse, Montana, Silistra and Dobrich in Bulgaria (+ Sofia).

Giurgiu, Mehedinţi, Calarasi, Constanta, Dolj, Olt, Teleorman in Romania (+Bucharest)

How?                                                     

  • a new joint tourism product (based on 2 hot-air balloons that will fly over both countries) will be created
  • increased number of overnights – 1,000
  • a network with promoters of the new tourism product will be created in order to develop the CBC region;
  • purchase of two hot air balloons – one for Bulgaria and one for Romania;
  • development of marketing strategy for a new cross-border tourism product /hot-air balloons/
  • balloon flights on ropes in 20 towns (10 different towns in Bulgaria and 10 in Romania) in order to promote the new tourism product;
  • training of balloon ground crew;
  • Balloon fiesta;
  • elaboration of the promotional materials of the project (website, DVD movie, brochure and photo book with unique pictures taken from the air, leaflets);

Results (what’s the contribution to the Programme)?

Programme outputs: approx. 2,000 visits to the attraction balloon flight on ropes in 10 towns in BG and 10 in RO, 1 integrated tourism product, 1 common strategy valorizing the cultural and natural heritage

Programme results: increase with 1,000 of overnights in the CBC area

Project status

Main achievements following the project implementation include:

- LB and B3 purchased two hot-air balloons and the related equipment, car and trailer;

- The marketing strategy for a new cross border tourism product/hot-air balloons was developed and presented during the workshops to the stakeholders. Description of the new tourism product, appropriate flight places in the CBC region and promotion of the product are part of the marketing strategy.

- Both LB and B3 performed each 100 hours of free flights in Bulgaria and Romania;

- B2 and B3 organized 8 workshops with local stakeholders, out of which 4 in Bulgaria and 4 in Romania;

- The partners took part in the tourism fairs in Sofia and Bucharest where the project tourism product was promoted through a photo album and a brochure developed within the project;

- Information and promotion activity such as: 4 press-conferences carried out by LB and B3, elaboration of leaflets, developing and broadcasting of a video and radio spots by LB and B3; 3000 photo album copies were elaborated by B3;

- LB organized 10 tethered flights, which were attended by 1,549 people; B3 organized other 10 tethered flights which were attended by 1,231 people.

The project contributed to an increase of 2,520 visits to supported sites of cultural and natural heritage and attraction.

- During the period 13-17 September 2017 at Erden airport, Montana, B2 organized the Balloon fiesta.
