The Wrriten Treasures of Lower Danube

What’s the goal?

Overall project objective is encouraging joint conservation, protection, promotion and development of the written intangible cultural heritage of the RO–BG CBC region through diversification of tourist services and literary tourism development, as a major factor for using and exploiting common advantages and potentials, and overcoming discrepancies.

How is it going to happen?

  • A new integrated tourist product Lower Danube Cross-border Destination for Literary Tourism (Lower Danube CBDLT)
  • Two pilot modern and innovative for the whole region literary tourist attractions will be created in the libraries in Ruse and Craiova, based on the newest digital technologies,
  • At least 5 literature tourist packages and 5 tourist routes will be created in the cross-border region
  • Two international literary festivals.
  • An Integrated Development Strategy of Lower Danube CBDLT worked out with the active participation of all kind of stakeholders in the CBC region;
  • A Three Year Action Plan for Management of the New Lower Danube CBDLT;
  • A Strategic plan for Cross-border network of stakeholders development will be prepared
  • An Innovative Marketing strategy for internationally promoting the new image of Lower Danube CBDLT.

What will be the results (what’s the contribution to the Programme)?

Programme outputs: Increase in expected number of visits to supported sites of cultural and natural heritage and attraction, 2 integrated tourism products/services created, 4 common strategies, policies or management plans for valorising (including raising awareness) the cultural and natural heritage through its restoration and promotion for sustainable economic uses.

Programme results: increase of the number of overnights in the cbc area with 4.320.

Project status

The following progress has been achieved so far:

The elaboration of a regional research and working out Integrated Sustainable Development Strategy of the Written Treasures of Lower Danube Cross-Border Destination for Literature Tourism was finalized. The delivered database was used as a base for developing routes and sites for Literature Tourism and also will be used in the later evaluation of the potential Stakeholders.

A report, containing the analyses of the literary tourism resources and infrastructure, reports regarding the two questionnaires from the survey of the stakeholders' opinion and also The Strategy for Sustainable development of the Region have been delivered.

For activity T2 (Implementation), B3 –continued with the delivery of the equipment. The following equipment and services have been delivered:

O Book laminating station;

O Production of graphic 3D objects and animations for hologram cube;

O Video capture, installation, and post-production of a standard type in the promoter;

O Production of graphic 3D objects and animations for a hologram pyramid;

The team of B3 started to digitalize the most attractive resources for the tourists in the cross border region. The process is supposed to continue beyond the timeframe of the current project and a target of at least 200 000 pages scanned per Project Partner is set.

The following items have been also delivered:

-Big Touchscreen table;

-Transparent screen – 2 pcs;

-Fog screen;

5 routes (out of the 9 routes proposed by the experts of the project team), the most representative of the cross-border area, have been established. These are:

1. Literary Dobruja (3 nights / 4 days, approx 390 km); Route: Constanța – Mangalia – Balchik – Dobrich – Silistra – Călărași - Cernavodă – Medgidia – Constanța;

2. Journey from book to movie (3 nights/4 days, approx 470 km); Route: Turnu Măgurele – Siliștea Gumești – Alexandria – Giurgiu – Ruse – Veliko Tarnovo – Nikopol - Turnu Măgurele;

3. Literature at home. Memorial Houses 1 (3 nights/4 days, approx 290 km); Route: Giurgiu – Ruse – Veliko Tarnovo – Elena;

4. The Literatura of the Big Cities (2 nights / 3 days, approx 150 km); Route: Craiova – Bechet – Oryahovo – Vratsa;

5. Route: Drobeta Turnu Severin – Craiova – Caracal – Bechet – Oryahovo – Vratsa – Belogradchik – Vidin – Calafat – Cetate – Drobeta Turnu Severin (3 nights / 4 days, approx 615 km);

For each route the stops, the crossing way and the touristic objectives are clearly set.

For Activity T4, B 3 – has been involved in the establishment of the Cross-border Stakeholders Network (CBSN).

LB hired external expertise in the field of tourism to provide professional support for the analysis and evaluation of interested parties regarding the Written Treasures of Lower Danube Cross-Border Destination for Literary tourism. The libraries of Ruse actively participated in the activities from this working package.

LB has contracted external expertise to conduct a survey on 300 Stakeholders from the cross-border region.
